Stella Spotlight On: Design Firm Kellie Franklin

The city simply hasn’t been the same since interior design firm Kellie Franklin popped up. The lovechild of designers Kellie Sirignano and Franklin Salasky, the firm is known for it’s clean, and contemporary yet easily personalizable style — and we at Stella were lucky enough to delve a little bit into their design process with a quick Q&A session.

Q&A with Kellie Franklin:

Stella: How did you both get into interior design?

Kellie Franklin: Both of us were drawn to interior design at a very young age. We began designing houses with complete furniture plans by fourth grade.

Stella: How do you describe Kellie Franklin's style?

Kellie Franklin: We are clean, modern, classic, and fresh – but we don’t box ourselves into any set of preconceived ideas. We create a personal ambience that reflects our clients comforts and interests, and leave them enjoying a strong sense of place.

Stella: A must-have accessory item in every home?

Kellie Franklin: A lamp designed by Ingo Maurer or Isamu Noguchi; a chopping block for the kitchen from Black Creek Mercantile and Trading Co; throw pillows from Stella and Raf Simons at Kvadrat.

Stella: Favorite statement pieces?

Kellie Franklin: We’re preoccupied with Hudson Valley furniture makers, obsessed with anything by Gio Ponti; Lindsay Adelman lighting; and a stunning carpet that grounds the room.

Stella: What are your sourcing criteria? How and why do you choose the places you shop for clients?

Kellie Franklin: Quality of materials, craftsmanship, design, and service; a work ethic that matches ours.

Stella: What are your client’s reactions to Stella bedding and accessories?

Kellie Franklin: Always LOVE. The products perform as promised and give pleasure without exception.

Stella: When making a bed- what do you choose for your clients, what are your recommendations?

Kellie Franklin: We balance our clients capacity for care of the products with the sense of luxury that comes from a beautiful bed.

Stella: What do both of you choose for yourself? (personal style right now?)

Kellie Franklin: Simple high-quality natural fibers – which is to say, Stella when we get lucky.

Stella: What is your ideal bed (materials, colors, style, exc?) Why?

Kellie Franklin: Lots of pillows with big down quilts. We use seasonal shifts of color materials from cotton to linen to flannel. It's family time with children, dogs, and TV.

Stella: What are some of your Stella favorites? How do you style them?

Kellie Franklin: The decorative pillows are rich in texture and the colors always seem to be just right in the moment. Bed linens are simple and elegant, so who can object? And the bath towel selection can’t be beat. They’re easy to mix up for great layered effects of color, texture, and tactility.
